Volkswagen Golf over the years
The first generation of the Volkswagen Golf was introduced in 1974. For the time, it was modern and contemporary. Unlike the Polo, Volkswagen gave buyers the option for a GTI version with the first generation Golf. Other options were available, too, like a diesel engine instead of petrol and a Cabriolet version. For paint colours, Volkswagen offered buyers a varied selection, which included Mars Red, Mexico Beige, and Alpine White.
Launched to buyers in the second half of 1983, the second generation Golf had a larger wheelbase than the first generation. Also known as the Mk2, the second generation Golf had a 1.8-litre engine with fuel injection. To accompany the updates, Volkswagen offers paint colours that include Atlas Grey, Tornado Red, and Diamond Silver.
Twenty-five years later, in 2008, Volkswagen was now on the sixth generation of the Golf, with the Mk3, Mk4, and Mk5 in the rearview mirror. The sixth generation Golf, or Mk6, had a more streamlined and aerodynamic design than the previous generations. It also had an updated interior and mechanics that enhanced performance and ride quality. Along with the other improvements, Volkswagen released an updated colour palette to buyers. Colours included Shark Blue Metallic, Sunflower Yellow, and United Grey Metallic.
In 2024, we are in the eighth generation of the Volkswagen Golf. Keeping the classic styling of the previous generations, the Mk8 is available with a hybrid power chain as well as an all-petrol alternative. When buying a brand-new Mk8 Golf, motorists can choose from a variety of paint colours, including Anemone Blue Metallic, Kings Red Premium Metallic, Oyster Silver Metallic, and Pure White Volkswagen paint colours.
